Four Foods on Friday #64
#1. What’s the oddest thing you’ve ever made with bread?
I’ve never really made something with bread that was out of the ordinary, but I did make something absolutely tasty once. They were little grilled cheese sandwiches, but better than the traditional “grilled floppy American plasticine cheese on sorry white bread” that most think of. I used two pieces of French baguette sliced on the bias (not too thin or thick) with a slice of brie and pear in between. In order to get them all melty, delicious, and crispy, I grilled them on a grill pan and pressed them with a cast iron pan to flatten them slightly. As for a dipping sauce, because I am a firm believer in sauces and condiments, raspberry mayo is by far the way to go. Ugh. I want to make them, now…
#2. What’s the oddest thing you’ve ever done with mac and cheese or pasta?
Me? Nothing, personally.
I have seen Paula Deen fry many things, but I must say that seeing the fried mac and cheese and the fried lasagna blew my mind. I really need to try those sometime.
#3. Is there a food you eat other then it is intended?
Nutella should probably be spread on sandwiches in place of peanut butter, mixed into ice cream… you know, incorporated or used along with things. Unless you are me, in which case it is perfectly acceptable to eat it right from the container using a spoon or a pretzel as a vessel to transport chocolatey hazelnut goodness from point a. – the container – to point b. – salivating mouth.
#4. What’s the weirdest food you’ve ever seen?
Buddha’s Hand citron. It’s a very weird looking citrus fruit. I’ve never used it, but I’d like to sometime. Here’s a nice article about someone’s experience with this odd fruit, complete with a picture and a recipe for Buddha’s Hand cupcakes and cream cheese frosting.

That grilled cheese sandwich sounds DELICIOUS.
I’ve heard so many good things about Nutella, but have never tried it. Maybe I should buy a jar…
