R.I.P.

We lost some beloved entertainment icons this week. :frown:

Ed McMahon…

Farrah Fawcett…

…now Michael Jackson, the fucking “King of Pop”!

A journalism major friend of mine commented how there are more “important” news stories to have been following up on than Michael’s status, and asked if people were interested in “real” news… but come on! Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, beloved by many regardless of what kind of reputation he’s had over the years, with such an incredible career in the music industry and a huge fanbase… that’s certainly notable news for the entertainment industry!!

To me, the most unfortunate part about Michael Jackson’s passing is that in the eyes of some people, he will be remembered as a “weirdo” and a “pedophile.” I’m tired of hearing about that, to be honest. Lest we forget that Michael was found to be not guilty in the 2005 trail that could have sent him to jail for 20 years if he was found guilty of the charges brought up against him. Instead of focusing on the bullshit… what about his contributions to the music industry? The number one songs, the highest selling albums, the work he did with ex-Beatle Paul McCartney, the fanbase he had…?

While I wasn’t a huge MJ fan, I respected him for his work and his incredible presence in the industry over the years. I think he inspired many great artists we see today, regardless of if he was “weird” or not, and will continue to do so after his passing.

That was one of the things I remembered about him, but his contributions to the international music scene is way bigger and far more important.:)

I became a fan just when he died but I love his songs even when I was young. :)
