Working for the weekend
Hope everyone visiting from the U.S. had a happy and safe Fourth of July weekend!
This whole weekend has been extremely busy for me, even though I was pleasantly surprised when I found out on Friday that I had off on Monday.
As soon as I got home on Friday, Steve and I made plans to start working on his house, and that is what we have been doing this whole weekend. He is going to have a party next weekend so I told him that we should start working in the back, getting both the yard and porch cleaned up for when guests come over. The people that lived here before he moved in were fucking scavengers… and that’s putting it as nicely as possible! There were leaves sitting on the deck for months and months that I swept off, but they left this nasty grime all over, and some idiot painted the deck with a baby blue interior latex paint at one point. We managed to get some of the paint off with a wood cleaner and a wood stripper, but some of it is still on there and will probably have to be stripped again or sanded off. The people that lived here before also never threw their shit out, didn’t take very good care of raking up old leaves and garbage in the back, and didn’t spray/cut down weeds and the ivy that is growing all over the side of the house and in the back. Needless to say, there was a lot of work to be done, but there is only so much two capable people can do at a time.
It was also big spending weekend, as there were a lot of things we needed to buy in order to clean up. Lumber and lattice was purchased to re-build part of the deck that was half falling off; a power washer to clean the siding, deck, and pretty much anything else outside; spray paint to spray an aluminum furniture set that we got; a nice metal, glass-topped patio table; and a variety of cleaners, chemicals, and other smaller supplies.
With that said… I better get back outside before it gets dark out and help him some more. We will probably have to work on this more during the week after we both get home from work if we want it to look acceptable for when guests come over next week. Wish us luck.
