Oh no he didn’t…

Priceless

From: NIN.com

He must have had a chat recently with R. Kelly. Should we look for a “Piss On You (version)” remix??

The NIN photogallery on Flickr is kind of like porno for me right now… So good.

ANOTHER LOCAL TOUR DATE ADDED!

NINE INCH NAILS
HOUSE OF BLUES
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH

YEAHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Now I know what my last Halloween store paycheck and the money I have from the paid blog posts is going to pay for…

So, about NIN live…

Fuckin’ a. What more can I say about seeing NIN live that I haven’t said two other times before??? I can try my hardest to express something cohesive and intelligent without totally losing my composure and blabbing about how Trent and I will run away in another lifetime and live happily ever after living naked on a desert island…

But maybe a little fangirling is necessary. Just a little, I promise, then I am done. I swear.

< begin fangirling / >

Trent was sporting a short hairdo and some stubble, like he was in the picture above. Now honestly, I respect him an immense amount as an artist – so much that words cannot express what some of his songs mean to me personally – but really… eye candy, much??? He is looking G-O-O-D, and his voice sounds so sexy. Really sexy. Sexier than when he sings the album version of “Lights in the Sky” – and that is pretty damn sexy, all whispery and sexy like he sings some times. And when he started speaking after he was singing and his voice was all raspy, I nearly died. Really. That other lifetime and the desert island are both too far away.

< / end fangirling >

It was great show all-around. I sang my heart out. I danced. (Yes, dancing is permitted at a Nine Inch Nails concert. I think. I didn’t get killed for it, at least.) I screamed “fist fuck” at the top of my lungs during “Wish.” It was pretty much perfect, as usual. There were some songs that were left out and I would have loved to hear, though, like: “The Line Begins to Blur”, “Non-Entity” (which probably would have made me cry; same with “And All That Could Have Been,” if they played it), and “Capital G.” A few things were thankfully extra-amazing to make up for those missing songs: Trent being sexy (first and foremost), “The Big Come Down,” “Reptile” (which I found out that Trent and I share a mutual love for), “The Frail/The Wretched,” “Discipline,” “Survivalism,” and Trent playing the xylophone during part of the “Ghosts I-IV” song set. The obligatory “Head Like A Hole” and “Closer” were of course crammed into the two hour show. I am incredibly tired of those songs, sad to say, but “Terrible Lie” is one that I don’t feel ever gets old. In fact, it is one of my favourites. “Down In It” I can normally take or leave, but I was surprisingly excited to hear it for a change.

What else do I want to say?? Hm… oh, pictures coming soon. I took about 150+ and only 40-something came out half-way decent, which I am incredibly pissed about… And I would post some more eye candy of Trent, but particular snobby, hard-assed NIN fans who only wish they could be as attractive, talented, and amazing as Trent might criticize me for being too much of a fangirl. So I’ll refrain (for now).

Review: NIN, “The Slip”

As mentioned, NIN released another new CD available to download for free. “The Slip” is 44 minutes long and consists of 10 brand-new tracks. All of the tracks are licensed under a “creative commons attribution non-commercial share alike license.” Remixing and sharing are both encouraged.

The following are my rough and initial impressions of the songs on the album. I have only listened to the album once in its entirety, so my opinions will most likely change as time goes on (for example, I used to skip right some of the instrumental tracks on earlier NIN albums until I learned to actively listen to what was going on in them.)

1. 999,999 (1:25): As if Trent hasn’t created enough instrumentals in the past two months, here is another one. I really like this one, though. It’s short and a great precursor to 1,000,000. The background noises remind me of a warning siren (hard to explain, but not a high-pitched one akin to those on emergency vehicles; more like something I’ve heard in movies) and later a staticy radio.

2. 1,000,000 (3:56): Another quality track with fuzz guitar. Trent is really into the fuzz guitar, I notice, and re-occurring lyrics/themes.

3. Letting You (3:50): More “fuzzy” noises this time on the vocals AND guitar. The voice effect reminds me of something from Ministry, and the track its self has an aggressive, Downward Spiral feeling to it.

4. Discipline (4:19): The dance hit of 2008!! Or as Meathead said, “NIN’s first second third hot new dance number specifically targeted at the gay community.” Well, regardless of what he thinks about this song, I think it is fucking awesome, and filled with more fuzz guitar! I think Trent might be abusing that now. Pick a different guitar pedal.

5. Echoplex (4:45): Okay, so there is a slightly different guitar effect on this track. Thanks, Trent; I see you found the guitar pedals that have been stashed away in storage since recording “The Fragile.” Anyway, I listened to this for the first time last week, and I honestly did not like it. It seemed incomplete, and I didn’t like the drum machine beat. After listening to it a second time, I like it a little, but not much more. It is a culmination of previously used sounds and techniques: The piano, the guitar, whispering… that other sound that I can’t describe.

6. Head Down (4:55): The fuzz guitar is back, and Trent sounds angry! And confused! (“There is not a single thing I can recognize.”) Hot track, though… I love the instrumental/digital breakdown starting at 2:55. It sounds like a malfunctioning fax machine – in a cool, Trent Reznor kind of way, of course.

7. Lights in the Sky (3:30): Trent has calmed down and taken a seat at the piano for this one… and I am instantly reminded of “Hurt” or something from “Still.” It’s beautiful, sad, and seamlessly fades into the next track…

8. Corona Radiata (7:34): The second instrumental track and the longest track on the album. This would make a great opener for a concert. It reminds me of something one might hear in a “survival horror” game when creeping around corners looking for horrific, mutated monsters – or in a movie, right before and while a UFO is landing and blinding everyone with bright blue lights. At the end, right around 7:00, I caught what sounded like screeching cats and a baby crying, but it probably wasn’t. Spooky, though.

9. The Four of Us are Dying (4:38): Another instrumental. Reminds me of “Eraser.”

10. Demon Seed (4:59): I thought this track was going to be instrumental, but some vocals kicked in after 45 seconds or so (they were hard to hear.)

Overall: There are so many interesting noises to listen to in these songs and one could conjure (as I have) various interpretations of what those noises could be. Many of these noises, effects, etc. are re-occurring and should be familiar from other NIN songs. The only song that I can honestly say I am not really into is Echoplex, which seems kind of incomplete to me, but other than that I have no real complaints. It is a quality album and definitely a step in a different direction when compared to previous NIN releases.

2008 Virgin Mobile Festival

The 2008 Virgin Mobile Festival has one HELL of a lineup!!!! Nine Inch Nails, The Foo Fighters, Stone Temple Pilots (reunion with Scott Weiland!!!), The Offspring, Kanye West Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan… and that does not even name half of it, only the ones I like. All that ass-kicking music would have to demand a high price, right? Right. A two day general admission pass is $175 (single day GA is $97.50) while a two day VIP pass is $450 (single day VIP is $250.) Holy shit!! Wait until the scalpers get their hands on those tickets: At that point you would be forced to take out a small loan if you really wanted to go. Both NIN and STP are also playing the 10th annual Voodoo Festival in New Orleans this October.

Unfortunately, the Festivals are out of the question for me. The Virgin Mobile Fest is in Baltimore, MD and the Voodoo Fest is in New Orleans, LA – and I would love to go, but clearly don’t have the money for travel let alone tickets. I’m in luck, though, because NIN are going on an independent tour this summer and are offering premium seats to their fans via pre-sales with very strict rules. No tickets will be mailed and all will be available to pick up on the day of the show with valid ID. The only date they have made available for a pre-sale so far is Lexington, KY. I wonder if either the NJ or PA dates will be offered that way? We’ll just have to wait and see, I suppose…
