Chocolate Truffles: Part 1

So it’s Valentine’s Day, a Hallmark holiday seemingly created for the sole purpose of making singles feel miserable about their lives (especially, say, if you were dumped the week of Valentine’s Day... you know, not like I am speaking from experience or anything...) and men feel obligated to buy their ladies flowers and chocolates. Well, you know what made me feel better about today? Chocolate truffles, that’s what. More specifically, dark chocolate Chambord truffles and semi-sweet chocolate ... Continue Reading

Key Ingredient

Two I have used and still use from time to time are the Food TV Network website and All Recipes, but there are many, many more out there on the internet that can offer new, fresh recipes and variations to traditional favourites. Recipe: Chocolate Almond Toffee

A few weeks ago, I bought toffee at Wegmans to satisfy my craving for sweet, chocolately goodness. Not much beats perfectly square gems of toffee, covered in chocolate and almonds, with a satisfying crunch and buttery flavor. Finally, though, I decided to make my own. We both wanted to see it for the longest time and, overall, we both enjoyed it, although parts were sappy. Catharine Zeta Jones played Kate, a cold-hard bitch of a head chef at a sophisticated restaurant in New York City. After an accident which claimed the life of Kate's sister, Kate became the caretaker of her niece, Zoe, and discovered how clueless she ... Continue Reading

Recipe: Bananas Fosters

I was dying to make this for the longest time and I finally got around to it tonight. It came out so good!! "2 oz" of rum is merely a guideline, as most of the alcohol cooks off, so feel free to be generous. As long as you can refrain from pouring the whole bottle in there, you should be fine. I used white rum because it is what I had on-hand, but try using dark rum, or equal parts rum and banana liquor, for extra flavor. The sugar and liquid helps to form the sauce for the bananas, and I bet it ... Continue Reading
