PA Brewery Tour Weekend

These months are flying by so fast; I can't believe it is already June! I recently celebrated my 6-month anniversary at my now not-so-new job. It has also been nearly a month since I graduated with my MBA and commemorated my 7th anniversary with Steve... wow, wow, wow. Since plans fell through to get away for my graduation weekend on account of the rain, Steve and I decided to take day trips to a few local breweries a few weekends ago, a "bucket list" item that we've had for some time. We ... Homemade Irish Cream

I came across a recipe for Homemade Irish Cream that presented me with a perfect excuse to imbibe over the holiday weekend while simultaneously knocking off one of my my foodie resolutions while doing so. Pretty cool. ;) I guess Irish Cream is considered a cordial... or a liqueur. Serious Eats suggests that the terms are interchangeable, with cordial appearing more often on dessert-like products: liqueurs flavored with coffee, cream, chocolate, etc. I followed the recipe for the basic ingredients, ... Foodie Resolutions for 2015: Revisited

Now that the year is just about over (wow, isn't that hard to believe...), it seems like an appropriate time to revisit my foodie resolutions for 2015 list that I posted back in January to see how I did. I reviewed the list to weed out the things that I've already accomplished and the common sense items (e.g., clean out the fridge... doesn't seem like ... Continue Reading

On Pinterest: Chocolate and Mint

For me, something just screams "St. Patrick's Day" when I think about chocolate and mint, both the flavor and the color combinations. In design, mint green seems like a perfect color to represent spring -- especially the shades on the lighter, pastel end of the spectrum -- but it can be elevated to a level of sophistication and all-season suitability when paired with contrasting, rich chocolate browns. And nothing is more perfect than the familiar taste of 90% of the population's favorite Girl Scout ... Continue Reading

On Pinterest: Bitters and Cordials

This sounds foolish to say now, but when Pinterest first launched I was skeptical to see if it was going to be successful. Mood boards -- collections of images, words, thoughts, colors, and other inspiration -- have been used in creative design (graphic and fashion design, branding...) for quite some time. Social bookmarking sites like Delicious and StumbleUpon already had been around the block. Social giants Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, and a number of other image sharing and microblogging sites ... Continue Reading
